YEAR IN REVIEW  share

Children’s Wish has had a tremendously successful year. Across the country, we granted wishes to more kids and touched more lives than ever before. Our commitment to being the best at wish granting is evident in this success.

A Record-breaking Year for Wish Granting – Our Donors Make It Possible! share

Thanks to our donors across Canada, we reached more children, along with their families and communities, by granting a record 1,195 wishes this fiscal year. That’s 219 wishes more than last year - an increase of 22%.

Donors like Phyllis Blair have made our largest ever wish granting year possible. Phyllis, aged 92, gives each year through our direct mail program and has also included Children’s Wish in her will. She explains, “I feel so blessed to have had three wonderful children and two grandchildren who are so healthy, and I want to give back.”

This same need to give back compels our wish families to donate. Little Maya Sapersilver received her Disney Wish in 2013, after her battle with a tumour in her spinal cord at the age of 18 months. The Sapersilver family have chosen to lead a fundraising team on the Wishmaker Walk and School Programs.

And there are valued supporters who run events, like the The Magic of Metals annual golf tournament. Over the past 28 years, a group of dedicated individuals from Canada’s steel industry have raised over $2.7 million for Children’s Wish.

We cannot thank our donors enough for helping us to grant more wishes than ever before.

More Wishes, More Wonders Campaign  share

At the urging of the medical community, The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada expanded our mission to include children with serious genetic and neurologic diagnoses, like severe cerebral palsy. These boys and girls face incredible challenges because they require constant and complex care, struggle with disabilities, are often hospitalized, and face drastically shortened lifespans.

Our More Wishes, More Wonders Major Giving Campaign launched coast to coast on October 29, 2015. Volunteer leaders across Canada have engaged as Provincial Chairs to help raise $10-million in major gifts by 2021, to help expand wish granting to this new group of children, and to continue to support the children and families we have always served, those with life threatening illnesses.

To date, $2 million in donations and $1 million in pledges have been confirmed by generous supporters. These donations are funding hundreds of heartfelt wishes for children. The impact of a wish is so powerful that it can be life-changing for a child and their family.

But we need help to make these wishes come true. Mr. Lacey explains, "We're inviting leaders and philanthropists coast to coast to join and contribute to the campaign to ensure no eligible child is ever denied a wish."

Holt Renfrew

Christmas Imagined by Holt Renfrew  share

Christmas Imagined by Holts charity shopping night in support of The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada exceeded everyone’s expectations. The fun and festive evening of shopping is a national event launching their iconic holiday campaign at all eight Holt Renfrew locations in Canada. In each store, the evening featured entertainment from Cirque du Soleil, drum and choir performances, stilt walkers, ballerinas and toy soldiers, as well as spectacular seasonal window displays and refreshments. A portion of all in-store sales from the night was donated to help grant the most heartfelt wish of children diagnosed with a life-threatening or serious genetic or neurological illness.

Holt Renfrew sent an invitation to all their loyal customers and Children’s Wish promoted the event through email and social media. Holt Renfrew clients responded generously and their purchases made a valuable contribution to the fundraising effort. It was Holt Renfrew’s largest charity shopping event to date. Their donation of $152,000 is an outstanding accomplishment and Children’s Wish is incredibly grateful to Holt Renfrew and their generous clients.

Edmonton

Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund share

The Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund has supported The Children’s Wish Foundation since 2007, and in that time has raised $830,000 and has recently pledged a multi-year gift of $500,000. In addition to their financial support, ECECAF had a hand in facilitating portions of Spider-Mable’s wish, which touched the hearts of many Canadians. The Children’s Wish, Alberta & Northwest Territory Chapter nominated ECECAF for several National Philanthropy Day awards, and in 2015 ECECAF received one of these awards.

Their partnership and contribution to raising awareness of Children’s Wish in Edmonton and the surrounding area has proven invaluable. We are so grateful for their ongoing support.
